Instructors make the difference!  The Hockey Development Company has assembled a tremendously experienced staff.  Our staff members bring knowledge and enthusiasm to all of our programs and projects.  We invite you to meet some of our staff members below:

 

Joe Martin

Joe is a native of Buffalo, MN and played professionally for the Toledo Storm of the East Coast Hockey League.  Joe played four years for the Minnesota Gophers, where he was part of two NCAA championship teams.  He is currently an assistant coach at St. Olaf.

Jackie MacMillan

Jackie MacMillan recently completed her first season as an assistant coach at Union College after spending a year as the assistant coach at St. Olaf College and Shattuck St. Mary’s Prep School in Minnesota. Before that she was the assistant hockey coach at Madison East Boys High School.

MacMillan played collegiate hockey at the University of Wisconsin in the WCHA. She was the starting goaltender for the Badgers for four consecutive seasons. She played in 121 games and earned 75 career wins at Wisconsin with 15 career shutouts. MacMillan logged close to 7,000 minutes in goal, had a .912 save percentage and a 2.08 goals against average. In 2002 MacMillan led the Nation with a 1.30 goals against average.

During her career with the Badgers she was a two-time WCHA All-Academic Team honoree. She was also named to the All-WCHA Second Team in 2002 and the First Team in 2000. MacMillan was a four-time WCHA Defensive Player of the Week and USCHO National Defensive Player of the Week selection. She earned conference player of the week honors twice and rookie of the week accolades once.

MacMillan graduated from Wisconsin in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She is a native of Buffalo, Minnesota.


Kirk Olson

Kirk Olson is in his second season as Director of Strength and Conditioning for the Minnesota Wild.

He is responsible for developing, implementing and executing all aspects of strength and conditioning throughout the Wild organization.  Olson, 33, has been training athletes in a private capacity for the past 3 years, focusing primarily on the development of hockey players.  Before going into the private sector to practice his trade, Kirk spent three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings’ (NFL) Strength and Conditioning Staff.  During his time with the Vikings, Olson also served as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Amsterdam Admirals of the NFL Europe League.  In addition to his coaching endeavors, Kirk has served as a consultant to several high school, college and university athletic programs.

A graduate of the University of Minnesota and St. Cloud State University, Kirk currently resides in Minnetonka, Minnesota.

Tom Peart

Currently an assistant coach for the Augsburg women's team, Todd has been active in hockey for the past three decades, as a player and as a coach. For four seasons (1999-2003), he was the women’s hockey head coach at the College of St. Benedict, where he compiled a 40-54-5 record. He also served as an assistant coach for the Blazers from 1997-99. Todd spent the 1995-96 season as a men’s hockey assistant coach at Augsburg. He has also been active in work with USA Hockey in Minnesota.

Todd has also coached both boys’ and girls’ hockey on the high school level. In 2003-04, he served as girls’ hockey coach at Gilmour Academy High School in Ohio. He also served as head coach for the Minneapolis Roosevelt HS boys’ team (1989-94) and the Buffalo-Wright County girls’ team (1997-99). At Roosevelt, he earned Section 5 Coach of the Year honors in 1991 and Minneapolis City Conference Coach of the Year honors in 1993.

An Alexandria, Minn., native, Peart played collegiately at Mesabi Community College (1977-78) and St. Cloud State University (1978-81). He earned his bachelor’s degree in speech communication and secondary education from St. Cloud State in 1982 and a second degree in health and physical education from Augsburg in 1989.

Chris Spanier

Chris is a certified personal trainer with a strong background in hockey conditioning.  He has worked with USA Hockey at national youth camps and currently instructs at USA Hockey coaches certification clinics. He is also an off-season trainer for several professional hockey players, including NHL players. 

Jon Waibel

Jon is a native of Baudette, MN and currently serves as an assistant coach at Buffalo HS in Buffalo, MN.  Jon played four years for the Minnesota Gophers, where he was part of two NCAA championship teams.  Prior to joining the Gophers, Jon spent two years in Ann Arbor, MI as part of the U.S. National Development Team Program.  Jon has served as a coach in the Minnesota Hockey Advanced (Select) program for four years.  He has also been involved with the Doug Woog Hockey Schools and Back to Back Camps.

Matt Walsh

Matt is one of the foremost hockey authorities in the United States, currently serving as USA Hockey's Central District Coach-in-Chief.  The former Wisconsin Badger has written and contributed to several USA Hockey publications.
